Our love story is like a book where two people were friends for years before realizing that they were meant to be together. And that's exactly what happened.
Back in high school, at some party - probably with questionable fashion choices - we met through a mutual friend in a crowd full of people. We didn't hang out all the time, but whenever we ran into each other, there was a sweet connection. He struck me as a genuinely kind guy – a feeling that has since been proven true.
Fast forward a bit, and we stumbled into this ongoing joke of calling each other "best friends." It all started as a playful thing – someone introduced us for the second time, and we ran with it. What I didn't realize was that he genuinely thought we were besties. I, on the other hand, assumed it was just our quirky humor. We still debate the mix-up! Get us started at the wedding!
YEARS later came Coachella – a night filled with laughing at ridiculous infomercials until the sun came up.
JR was supposed to go back to Arizona once the festival was over but instead, he drove all of the way to California for the night and asked if I would be his ‘carpool dummy’. I guess it’s true what they say, 6 hours in traffic either makes you love or hate the person.
As college happened, life threw us some curveballs. I was just starting out, he was figuring out post-grad life, and we found ourselves at different points in our journeys. We stuck together through it all, navigating the messy bits of growing up and the changes to our social lives.
Over the next few years we got closer over our obsession with trying out new things.
We took on the challenge of building a camper van together, discovering the intricate dance of working side by side and getting closer in the process. Now, I'm not saying we bickered like an old married couple, but if there was a reality show about clueless DIY-ers, we'd be the stars. From spontaneous trips, converting a van, changing jobs, and renovating a home – we embraced change like it was going out of style.
We've sort of got this unspoken deal where we back each other up on whatever crazy goals we set. Whether it's tackling a fear, picking up a new skill, or just trying to adult, we're there for the beginning middle, and end. It's more like having a partner in crime against the mundane than anything too serious. But it’s something special we’ve created - a mutual agreement to make life a bit more interesting.
